Nan founded Allison Nutrition Consultants, Inc. (formerly Allison and Beck Nutrition Consultants) in 1987. She is co-author, with Carol Beck, of “Full and Fulfilled: the Science of Eating to Your Soul’s Satisfaction.“
Nan’s undergraduate degree is in Nutrition from the University of Tennessee, her master's in Nutrition from Tufts University and she completed her dietetic Internship at Tufts New England Medical Center Hospital. Nan worked in public health for 10 years, and upon founding Allison Nutrition Consultants, developed expertise in eating disorders, consulting in long-term care, and substance use disorder treatment facilities.
She also serves as Public Policy Coordinator on the Board of the Tennessee Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Nan was the Tennessee Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics 1990 Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year and in 2002, Dietitian of the Year.
Her Approach: Nan’s ongoing interest is in why individuals and cultures choose to eat the way they do and how to facilitate change at the individual, corporate and community levels. While mostly retired, she has helped clients, and (yes) organizations with a variety of nutrition related issues, always from the perspective that nutritional health (both individual and corporate) is a process rooted in guided self- exploration and discovery.
Clients she works with: Currently, Nan serves as a mentor to dietitians, and fills in for our team when needed.
Her favorite things: Textiles and fabrics, collecting barrettes, public policy, my walking group, my yard and home.
